The student has to have a BA/BSc. degree or equivalent education that the school accepts
Mode of study
Full time study or part time study
Programme requirements
A master study has to include a research project (60 or 90 ECTS) and courses (20 or 60 ECTS), If the student is not able to finish the study in two years, he/she will have to apply for an extension to the graduate study committee. An extension is not granted for more than three year. In special cases, e.g. for part time students, the committee can approve up to five Within a year of starting the masters study the student will have to give an open lecture, where the scientific background of the project are introduced, research plan explained and first results introduced (if possible). At that time the masters committee will evaluate the progress in the study and if the student will be allowed to continue his/her studies. A master project ends with a submission of a thesis and an oral defence. At the same time as the thesis is submitted the student needs to provide a confirmation that all courses are finished. The thesis and defence are evaluated by an examination committee, which includes advisor, member of advisory committee and an external examiner. The defence is supervised by a teacher from the department.

Knowledge and Understanding:
Have gained a systematic understanding of the most recent knowledge within their field of study, giving them a deeper and broader understanding of the knowledge they gained at the B.Sc. level. Are able to make use of and assimilate their knowledge and understanding of theoretical work in order to solve complicated challenges. Are able to analyse and construct arguments supporting results in a professional manner and make independent decisions based on their findings.
Type of Knowledge:
Are able to understand and confront complicated challenges in a professional context and put forward an opinion based on limited information. Have gained knowledge of a specific area within aquatic biology through an independent research project.
Practical Skills:
Are able to find, analyse and evaluate scientific and statistical data.
Theoretical Skills:
Are able to evaluate when various research and analytical methods are appropriate.
Communication Skills and Information Literacy:
Are able to develop and have initiative on new projects in their field of study, direct projects and assume responsibility for the work of individuals and groups. Are able to give a clear account of complicated theoretical subject matters and statistical conclusions both among specialists and laymen. Can work independently and in a group. Have learned the use of and used the software used in their field of study.
Learning Skills:
Have developed the required competences and independence to continue studies at the PhD level.
Access to further study:
The study allows the student to continue education on the PhD level.
